Serverless Peer to Peer VoIP Meets Wireless as Popular Telephony Partners with Clipcomm

Stockholm, Sweden at VON Europe 2005, May 26, 2005—Popular Telephony Inc., a pioneer of serverless peer-to-peer technology, and the inventor of Peerio, today announced that Clipcomm, a leading Korean manufacturer of VoIP solutions and supplier to Korea Telecom, has licensed the Peerio middleware technology to enable end-to-end serverless operability in a range of WiFi and fixed-line IP terminals.

“Clipcomm’s WiFi and Bluetooth technology coupled with Popular Telephony’s serverless Peerio™ middleware creates a fully featured SIP- or H.323-based PBX system for enterprises that requires neither servers nor wires,” said Dmitry Goroshevsky, CEO and Founder of Popular Telephony. “As a result of this new partnership Clipcomm is able to bring a new approach to wireless telephony technology to the North American, European and Asian markets.

By embedding Peerio into the Clipcomm terminals Ethernet cables and switching hardware become a thing of the past, as the user just plugs in the terminals and the power cord to deploy a Peerio enabled Clipcomm telephony system. Clipcomm’s built-in WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities provides the interconnection between fixed and mobile phones. Security and safety have also been designed into the system from conception, allowing gateways to drive phones using the power from the PSTN in case of catastrophic power failure in the office. Clipcomm phones also support a specialized high-performance DSP technology, as well as a range of different encryption systems including DH key exchange and various DES options.

¨We think this relationship between Clipcomm and Peerio will be a great opportunity for the market in the near future, and we are sure that this combination of the technologies will bring tremendous success to both Clipcomm and Peerio.” says Randy Ahn, Sales Director at Clipcomm.

The award-winning Peerio core technology eliminates the need for any centralized server and allows any IP phone, PC or other terminal to interconnect and materialize into a bespoke communications system that is self-servicing, self-healing, redundant, and secure. The Peerio autonomous telephony architecture also brings greater efficiency for communications, as well as offering substantial cost-effectiveness, with savings of up to 80% on system purchase and application costs. A Peerio intelligent device or system can support the widest possible range of telephony features and services by delivering up to 250 features and scaling to over 4 billion lines.

Based in Seoul, Korea, Clipcomm is a manufacturer of IP telephony terminals, with a strong emphasis on standards-based WiFi and Bluetooth technology, offering a broad range of gateway and phone products. In addition to their dedicated WiFi terminal, Clipcomm gateways and fixed IP phones are WiFi- and Bluetooth-enabled. Clipcomm’s customers include Korea Telecom, France Telecom, Skywave, VoipSupply, Vegastream and the other prestigious telecommunication companies throughout world.

“The Korean market is one of the most significant technology markets in the world today so we are delighted to announce the imminent availability of Peerio middleware on Clipcomm WiFi and fixed phones and gateways. We believe this partnership will have significant impact on the enterprise telephony market worldwide by making available highly sophisticated serverless telephony systems that have unparalleled WiFi integration.”, Gavin McFadyen, the Director of Product Management at Popular Telephony.

Minacom Unveils World’s Smallest VoIP/VoDSL/VoCable

Minacom’s PowerProbe 30 – Pocket Service Level Responder

Stockholm, Sweden, May 26, 2005—Minacom today introduced the PowerProbe 30 Service Level Responder. The Tester fits easily in the palm of your hand, is self powered from the phone line and boasts an impressive list of measurements for VoIP/VoDSL/VoCable acceptance testing and troubleshooting.

The breakthrough Minacom technology allowing this small size is in good part in the PowerProbe 6000 and 500 software technology that Minacom has developed and patented over the past years in its labs and working with large telephone and cable operators worldwide. A single PowerProbe 6000 can interoperate with lots of technicians carrying PowerProbe 30 units in their pocket.

Minacom’s PowerProbe 30 unique combination of small size, line powered, feature rich and low cost enables a large number of applications ranging from subscriber VoIP loop testing to intermittent VoIP fault tracking requiring active monitoring to VoIP loop pre-qualification for alarm systems.

For each Test Call, the PowerProbe 30 gathers 60 service level measurements checking the following types of impairments:
• Call Connectivity
• Network Responsiveness
• Speech Quality (MOS)
• Codec Issues (VAD, Packet Loss)
• Echo
• Noise
• Voice Path Delay
• Frequency Response
• DTMF Detection
• Fax

"Some of our customers wanted a very small, low cost box that could test not only the VoIP loop, but the inside wiring and the loading of customer owned regular and cordless phones. Some others wanted the same feature-rich, low cost and small form factor so they could send the units in envelops to places where they got no equipment whatsoever and could get rich test results to the far end including everything including the Codecs." said Michel Nadeau, President and Founder of Minacom Labs Inc. "Our engineers have done what they are best at doing: listening well to our customers, working closely with them and coming out with breakthrough technology that makes managing nextgen networks cheaper and simpler."

Live demonstrations of the PowerProbe 30 are done on a regular basis at VON Europe 2005 at the Minacom booth #968.

Minacom’s PowerProbe 30 is available immediately on a worldwide basis. For more information visit: www.minacom.com/products.

Netcentrex and TdSoft Promote Full Class 5 Solution at VON

Class 5 Replacement Solutions Now Mature

Stockholm, Sweden, May 26, 2005—TdSoft Ltd., a global provider of voice-over-IP (VoIP) gateways, enabling the smooth migration to next-generation networks (NGNs), and Netcentrex(TM), the leading enabler of converged voice-video-data networks and next-generation services, launched at VON Europe 2005 a complete Class 5 softswitch and line gateway solution enabling Service Providers to replace costly TDM switches while supporting the full range of legacy local loop infrastructure including analog lines and V5 based DLC's. The joint TdSoft-Netcentrex solution enables carriers to provide traditional high quality telephony services while benefiting from Voice over IP (VoIP) in the core of the network.

The solution comprises Netcentrex' CCS Application Softswitch and TdSoft's TdMAX line gateway. Featuring the highest subscriber line capacity and smallest footprint in the market, TdMAX 1000 is a carrier-class, best-of-breed platform that provides network operators with unrivaled reliability, full compatibility with VoIP signaling protocols, and a rich set of voice and data features. TdMAX 1000 serves as an ideal access gateway for Class 5 replacement switches, and is interoperable with softswitches based on MGCP and Megaco/H.248 signaling protocols. Leveraging TdSoft's proven track record in access gateways for carriers, TdMAX 1000 offers multi-service support for a full array of voice applications, such as POTS and ISDN, and broadband applications, such as ADSL and G.SHDSL.

Optimized for the central office, the scalable TdMAX supports 960 ports on a single shelf, up to six shelves in a rack for a total of 5760 POTS lines per rack. Furthermore, with the aid of another member of TdSoft's TdMAX family, the TdGATE IP-V5 enables the same advanced class 5 softswitch features to be provided to remote digital loop carriers (DLC's) using V5.1, V5.2 and GR303 protocols.

The CCS Softswitch is a high performance multi-protocol class 4/5 application softswitch that performs call control, routing and value-added network infrastructure functions. Its open architecture ensures a very high level of interoperability and outstanding quality of service and has led to the platform's undisputed success. Frost & Sullivan recognized Netcentrex as the worldwide leader in the Class 5 Application Server market in their 2004 World VoIP Equipment Update published in March 2005. Netcentrex represented 41 percent of all lines deployed in 2004, more than twice that of any other supplier.

As Class 5 softswitches become a reality, the Netcentrex/TdSoft solution offers service providers the ability to support existing and legacy customers as the requirement to reach and provide service to millions of existing POTS and ISDN lines becomes abundant. The movement towards Class 5 replacement is inevitable as TDM switches become obsolete or expensive to maintain and by extending the softswitch with a high density/small footprint line access gateway optimized for central office deployment allows for a cost-efficient and future-proof voice solution.

In a Greenfield scenario, the combination of a Class 5 softswitch and a line access gateway enable the service providers to launch a next-generation fixed-line telephony service at a cost of entry previously unheard of. Service providers can also benefit from full local loop unbundling and provide their customers with a network-based first-line telephony service not requiring any CPE or customer-site intervention.

"TdSoft has been serving service providers in the ETSI market for 11 years and we are proud to work with Netcentrex whose leading application softswitch has, according to Frost & Sullivan, a 41% market share for Class 5 Application Servers, and carrier-class deployments that total over 1 million subscribers in the residential market alone," said Dan Ostroff, TdSoft's VP Marketing and Sales. "The combination of Netcentrex's innovative CCS Softswitch with TdSoft's field proven carrier-class TdMAX enables optimization of the network and replacement of maintenance heavy, legacy TDM switches while continuing to provide the trust-worthy telephony services demanded by residential and business customers."

"Teaming up with TdSoft, we provide our customers quality solutions based on the market leading CCS Softswitch and TdSoft's best-of-breed gateways that have been field proven worldwide," said Erik Larsson, VP Marketing, at Netcentrex. "The combination of a softswitch and a VoIP gateway enables Greenfield service providers to deploy rapidly and at a lower cost, while traditional operators benefit from a gradual and continuous migration path. Carriers are able to keep their existing access infrastructure, while upgrading their core call control platform to VoIP. By starting migration at the heart of the infrastructure, carriers can immediately enjoy the benefits that VoIP provides. These benefits include low CAPEX and OPEX, increased service creation and revenue generation, and reduced customer churn."

TdSoft and Netcentrex are exhibiting at VON Europe in booths 1144 and 651 respectively.
